Invasive Mussels in Ontario: History, Biology, Impacts & Prevention

September 21 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Since their arrival to the Great Lakes, invasive zebra and quagga mussels have spread throughout North America, causing serious ecological and economic damage. This webinar will introduce the history and biology of these tiny invaders in Ontario, as well as discuss their impacts and pathways of spread.

We will also touch on what makes them especially invasive, and discuss prevention methods and how to report sightings of invasive mussels. Lastly, this webinar will highlight the community science IsampleON program that is being conducted by the Invasive Species Centre and the Federation of Ontario Cottagers’ Associations. The goal of this program is to help citizens prevent, detect, and monitor for aquatic invasive species in inland lakes and other water bodies.

This webinar will be presented by Renata Claudi, RNT Consulting Inc. and Derissa Vincentini, Invasive Species Centre.
