Job Summary:   

The Grants and Partnerships Junior Coordinator will support the planning, delivery, and evaluation of grant and partnership initiatives related to invasive species prevention and management. The candidate will assist with grant design, promotion, application and report review, applicant communications, data collection and analysis, and relationship-building with community partners and municipalities. They will also help create accessible communications materials, outreach campaigns, invasive species profiles, and literature reviews to support public awareness and program impact. 

Key duties include:   

  • Support grant design, promotion, application review process, including applying knowledge and understanding of invasion biology to environmental issues and management strategies

    • Coordinate grant proposal review and notifications of final decisions, including communications to applicants about the scientific rationale behind funding decisions 
     
    • Support report review and assessment 
     
    • Provide support and develop working relationships with groups 
     
    • Support team members on similar community support work with municipalities related to invasive species, their impacts, and environmental management of these species 
     
    • Collects and analyze data related to key performance indicators from grant recipients to improve the program and to better understand the grants’ impact. 
     
    • Write related content for reports, websites, newsletters, and other communications products 
     
    • Develop and deliver novel communications campaigns for public outreach on a variety of topics 
     
    • Produce invasive species profiles and literature reviews 

 

Minimum Qualifications:    

  • The candidate must be enrolled in a post-secondary academic study in a program directly related to the position. The study program must be in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) or Business fields. “Business fields” typically refer to areas related to business studies, management, entrepreneurship, and other commercial sectors. This can include disciplines such as finance, marketing, human resources, business administration, and operations management, particularly as they intersect with STEAM initiatives.  
     

Minimum Competencies:    

  • Strong writing skills to synthesize complex information in a way that is interesting and accessible for non-technical audiences   
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office software and Adobe software is considered an asset

The Indigenous Partnerships Intern will support the Invasive Species Centre’s work with Indigenous communities and organizations by helping build and maintain respectful relationships, supporting community engagement activities, and assisting with the integration of Indigenous knowledge and priorities into invasive species programming. The candidate will help promote access to grant opportunities, provide support to funded Indigenous projects, contribute to event planning and internal communications, and participate in regional travel for meetings, workshops, and partnership activities as needed. 

Ideal candidates bring knowledge and lived experience of Indigenous communities, cultures and peoples, curiosity, humility, and a commitment to learning from Indigenous communities. Position Summary 

The main role of the Forest Pest Intern is to support the forest sector by strengthening pest monitoring, outreach, training, research, and partner coordination to help communities and stakeholders protect forest health and respond to emerging threats. Principal Accountabilities 

  • Review and update the Invasive Species Centre’s forest pest training modules 
  • Support crisis communications related to emerging forest pests 
  • Attend forest pest working group meetings and support note taking 
  • Respond to public inquiries on forest pests through the ISC info line 
  • Support the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Monitoring Network, including kit assembly and dissemination to volunteers 
  • Assist with the Black Ash Monitoring Network project work 
  • Liaise & provide tools, resources, and most current knowledge and information to communities to inform and support their work managing their land, water, and natural resources and land management plans, if applicable  
  • Assist in the development of workshops, events, training, and meetings

  • Prepare, and deliver presentations, work plans, briefings, and reports

Job Summary  

The Aquatic Invasive Species Intern will support the objectives of the Invasive Species Centre by assisting with invasive species identification, research, reporting, and related program activities. 

The Intern will sort and analyze water samples, and compile and organize datasets for tracking and reporting purposes, which will contribute to research and peer-reviewed publications, public reports, and invasive species management efforts. 

The Intern will also support aquatic invasive species programs by responding to public inquiries, developing outreach materials, attending public outreach events, creating social media content, tracking performance metrics, and assisting with communications and marketing initiatives. 

The Intern will collaborate with staff, partners, and working groups to advance invasive species prevention and management efforts while gaining valuable experience in research, data analysis, science communication, and program delivery to protect biodiversity and natural resources. 

 

Principal Accountabilities 

The Aquatic Invasive Species Intern will:  

  • Analyze water samples for presence or absence of zebra and quagga mussel veligers, and spiny water flea.  
  • Track zooplankton diagnostic results and create final reports for partner organizations. 
  • Assist with data entry. 
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe lab space. 
  • Respond to public inquiries about aquatic invasive species. 
  • Support invasive species programs at the Invasive Species Centre, especially related to aquatics. 
  • Participate in outreach, webinars, or workshop events to support invasive species education and awareness. 
  • Communicate scientific and technical information effectively and accurately to public audiences. 
  • Develop new aquatic invasive species outreach materials. 
  • Create content for the Invasive Carp Canada social media channels and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). 
  • Support the Aquatics Program Coordinators with influencer outreach, social media marketing, paid advertising, especially with regards to invasive carps and invasive aquatic plants. 
  • Participate in the collaborative groups working to address invasive species.

Qualifications  

  • University and college graduates who have graduated within the last three years from an accredited college or university with a degree or diploma in biology or a related field.  
  • Candidates must be graduates of post-secondary degree or diploma programs. 
  • The position must provide the intern with first full-time employment in their field of study.
